Process

I look to the well-established double-diamond approach to tackle product problems. I start with research and discovery, followed by problem statement definition and prioritization - all while paired with product and tech leads. This approach enables the team to make informed decisions when it comes to making product improvements and addressing missing functionality that meets current and emerging product gaps from the user’s perspective.

Pain Point Identification

We were able to validate/invalidate assumptions and identify pain points by engaging with users via surveys and interviews. The design team hosted multiple brainstorming sessions to synthesize our insights and help prioritize areas most likely to impact the overall user experience - we then used these findings to help us form problem statements.

As a Portfolio Manager, I feel frustrated by the lack of insight into progress being made at my buildings I have.

As a Property Manager, I find it frustrating when having to manage multiple systems to ensure my data is flowing harmoniously.

“How Might We”

  • Help ensure data is complete and accurate for reporting purposes?

  • Support the relationship between asset managers and property managers in the product?

  • Provide an excellent user experience for data transformation needs?

We took this as an opportunity to evaluate how we’re organizing product features based on the customer’s needs to improve the overall efficiency and navigation as well as create space for future product enhancements.

Approach

According to the user research prioritization framework, it was decided that we were situated in the ‘Design Heavy’ quadrant. At this point, we have a concrete hypothesis and data on customers and their problems. The risks of not building the appropriate solution to address the problem are crucial in seeking to address time-sensitive challenges.

To provide confidence to those involved in product development, we leverage prototypes and remotely moderated testing methods to validate our product and design vision.

Vision

Users confirm and express excitement for this unified solution that elevates their data quality and aims to deliver outcomes related to reporting, ROI, and decarbonization. With some even asking, "When can I buy this?" after walking through the prototypes.
